Russia keeps grain crop forecast at 127 mln tonnes despite heat

NOVOSIBIRSK, Jun 25 (PRIME) -- The Agriculture Ministry preserves its current crop forecast at 127 million tonnes despite the scorching heat that hit Russia in the recent week, Deputy Minister Oksana Lut told reporters on Friday.

“The soil in the main grain regions of our country is still relatively moist at a depth of one meter. So far, we have not had any serious concerns. … It is obvious that there are differences in the regions, there are regions where it is hot, but we expect rains to happen there, we track weather forecasts,” she said.

“The information that we have now allows us to maintain our forecast at 127 million tonnes of grain. We also hope that the quality of grain will be high as well.”
